The study of English Language and Literature as a combined course encourages students to develop an interest in both language and literature as interconnecting and mutually supportive disciplines. If students enjoy reading and discussing a range of literature, but also have an interest in the linguistic approaches to language – students will enjoy this course. We explore the relationship between language and literature through a wide range of reading opportunities; critically reading and responding to both literary texts and non-literary texts, as well as writing for different audiences and purposes.

Minimum entry requirement to the Arthur Terry 6th form: Gaining a minimum 33 points from a minimum of 7 GCSEs which must include English Language and Maths with a minimum point score of 4. (see conversion table on the Arthur Terry School website) Individual subject entry requirements must follow the Pathway entry requirements table also available on the Arthur Terry School website. Up to 2 BTEC/OCR National qualifications at Level 2 Merit can be used for 6th form entry. Each BTEC will count as 1 of the 7 GCSE grades Minimum subject entry requirement: 5 in GCSE English Language and 5 in GCSE English Literature
