Students will study a variety of aspects of linguistic study and explore the written, spoken and multimodal language used by the individual and society in everyday life. We examine the history of how our language has developed right through to the present day and how it might change in the future. Students also study how children learn to speak and get the chance to conduct their own investigation of language. Students’ own creative writing is also a key feature of the course. English Language A-Level is very different to English Language GCSE; the course can be scientific and sociological and full of new terminology. It really allows students to explore a range of topics associated with language and their relevance to our world today.

What you need to get on

GCSE 6 in both English Language and English Literature.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
