What the college says

English Language is an empowering subject which enables students to explore the influence of language used in our everyday lives. The course contains a wide range of topics including representations of social groups in our media, attitudes to accents, dialects and language change, and child language acquisition. Additionally, students will develop their own persuasive, informative and storytelling writing skills. There is freedom to choose an area of interest to investigate in detail for the coursework including the language of talent show judges, football commentators and advertisements. English language develops the critical thinking required in a wide range of A-level and degree courses.
