An A-Level in Design Technology: Product Design allows students to learn about contemporary technologies, materials, and processes, as well as established practices. The course places a great emphasis on understanding and applying iterative design processes and real-world case studies. Students will use their creativity and imagination to design and make prototypes that solve real and relevant problems, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. The AQA A Level Design Technology: Product Design course is recognised as an academically rigorous programme of study by all Universities. It sits very well alongside other subjects like Maths, Business Studies, Computer Science, Art and Design, History and Science. Students who have a passion for Design and an interest in new technology will progress very well on this course. Design skills, such as graphical communication, computer aided designing (CAD), computer aided manufacturing(CAM), and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be developed through a combination of core and individual task activities.

What you need to get on

Candidates need to have studied and achieved a grade 6 at GCSE Design & Technology or merit in Engineering before commencing work on this specification. Students should show a particular interest in post ‘A’ level study. Students are also to have achieved a minimum of a grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics.
