What the college says

This course is for students who want to continue studying design and technology after GCSE. It will suit you if you enjoy combining theory with practical work and want to use your maths and science skills. Having an interest in drawing, model making or design history would be an advantage. You might be choosing this A level to aim for a career in product design or engineering, though it will give you transferable skills such as creativity, problem solving, analytical thinking and IT skills that can be used in a variety of careers.

What you need to get on

Sixth form entry requirements: Grade 4 English and Maths plus at least 3 more GCSEs at grade 4 or above. Short courses do not count. Also required, a minimum grade 5 in a design related subject such as Resistant Materials, Graphic Design, Product Design, Fine Art, Textiles or Photography.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
