Computer Science is an ideal course for students who want to learn the underlying principles of how computers work. The course examines the fundamental concepts including: abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms, and data representation. Students analyse problems in computational terms and through practical experience of programming, developing the capacity to think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically, and critically. At A Level, students write a program of their choice to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the subject. Many students choose to make simple 2D games such as Space Invaders or Pac-Man, which gives them a good grounding for higher education. This is a challenging course, requiring patience, perseverance and a very keen interest in computers.
