This course is for students with an interest in how computers and computer systems work, how they are constructed and programmed. You might be choosing computer science because you're headed for a computing career, though thinking computationally (logically, using reasoning, breaking complicated things down and being able to express instructions precisely) is a skill that can be used in a wide range of other careers too. To study Computer Science A Level, you'll need a keen interest in computers and good technical, mathematical and problem solving skills. Computer Science particularly complements subjects such as Science and Maths.

What you need to get on

Sixth Form Entry Requirements: Grade 6 or better in Mathematics and English, together with a further 4 GCSE subjects at Grade 6 or better. Subject Specific Entry Requirements: Grade 7 in Computer Science or Grade 7 in Mathematics. There is no requirement for you to have a GCSE in Computer Science, but it would be highly beneficial. We strongly advise you to study either A Level Maths or Core Maths alongside Computer Science.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
