What the college says

The aim of computer science is to provide a thorough understanding of how computers work, the principles of software development and coding. You will develop an understanding of algorithms, cybersecurity and network topologies. There will also be a focus on developing the key computational thinking skills of abstraction, decomposition, pattern recognition and algorithmic design. Additionally you will study the impact of computer science on society, looking at the legal, ethical, moral and social aspects of our modern lives. It is not a course that develops digital literacy e.g. office applications. The focus is on a deeper understanding of computer science as a subject.

What you need to get on

GCSE maths grade 6 or above and at least 4 other GCSE’s grade 9-4. It is recommended that to progress onto this course you will have studied Computer Science at GCSE level and have achieved a grade 6 or above due to the substantial amount of programming.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
