The course encourages learners to develop an understanding of, and the ability to apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms and data representation. It gives students the ability to analyse problems, including writing programs to solve such problems. Students will also develop key skills such as creativity, innovation, and critical analysis and apply them to different aspects of computer science. Students will also focus on articulating the individual, moral, social, ethical, legal and cultural opportunities and threats of the increasing use of digital technology in all aspects of life. Computer science and the application computers to solve problems is not only valuable to the learners themselves, but is also essential to the future wellbeing of the country.

What you need to get on

Minimum entry requirement to the Arthur Terry 6th form: Gaining a minimum 33 points from a minimum of 7 GCSEs which must include English Language and Maths with a minimum point score of 4. Individual subject entry requirements must follow the Pathway entry requirements table also available on the Arthur Terry School website. Up to 2 BTEC/OCR National qualifications at Level 2 Merit can be used for 6th form entry. Each BTEC will count as 1 of the 7 GCSE grades Minimum subject entry requirement: 5 in GCSE Computer Science and 6 in GCSE Maths plus 5 in GCSE English Language or Literature
