The A level Computer Science specification focuses on the knowledge, understanding and skills students need to progress to higher education or thrive in the workplace in today's modern and changing world of technology. Advances in computing are transforming the way we work and the computer science specification is designed to reflect this. The course content covers: computer components and how they work. Programming and emphasises the importance of computational thinking as a discipline. Computational thinking at its core, helping students to develop the skills to solve problems, design systems and understand human machine intelligence. The 2-year course is split into two complementary sections, component 01 - theory and component 02 - programming. The theory side of computer science teaches about the internal workings of a computer, right down the basics of how all data is stored using binary, whether that data consists of numbers, text, pictures or even music. It goes on from there to cover aspects of computer architecture, showing exactly how data is accessed from main memory using assembly language instructions and the fetch-execute cycle. On the programming side of the course, students can learn a programming language (chosen by your teachers from C#, Java, Pascal/Delphi, Python and VB.Net). What you need to get on

Grade 6 or above in GCSE Mathematics and Science is a compulsory. Need to be taken with A Level Mathematics. GCSE Computer Science is strongly desired but not essential, however, students are expected to study and learn the GCSE Computer Science content in their own time prior to starting the A Level course.
