Studying A-Level Biology develops and demonstrates a deep appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of scientific methods. You will develop a competence and confidence in practical, mathematical and problem solving skills. You will have an appreciation for how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how it contributes to the success of the economy and society. The Biology specification is designed to provide opportunities for students to appreciate a sense of awe and wonder at the scale and impact of natural processes and phenomena: the importance of animals, plants and microorganisms to life on Earth; the place of humankind in the natural world; legal issues relating to genetic engineering; how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the Sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society.

What you need to get on

34 points minimum. To study any science at A-Level a student must achieve a minimum of a grade 5 on all Science GCSE’s on the higher tier (Grade 6 preferred). A grade 4 in English is required for A-level Biology. Grade 5 achievement will require an interview with the Head of Science to assure suitability.
