What the college says

This is a new two-year course which allows students to expand their creative horizons through taking and editing photographs. Initially the course will help students understand the workings of the camera and the use of editing software such as Photoshop. Emphasis is also placed on framing of photographs through understanding composition and light, as well as a range of artistic styles that can be developed photographically. Students will explore a range of genres including portraiture, landscape photography, commercial photography, still life photography, documentary photography, fashion photography, experimental imagery and the moving image/animation. Students are exposed to a wide variety of photographers' styles and techniques, which they can use or respond to through their own work. They will also have the opportunity to combine their photography with traditional art skills in printing, collage and 3D. The course will help students to develop their skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, creativity and perseverance. The department will provide access to DSLR cameras, lighting equipment and computer software.
