This course is an introduction to the wide range of technical and creative skills required to work as an artist or designer in the videogame industry. The Level 3 Extended Diploma qualification is equivalent to three A-Levels, and the unique course content has been designed and developed in conjunction with a range of game studios located within the games development hotbed known as ‘Silicon Spa’. Primarily aimed at those with an interest in art and computing, the course covers theory and software skills relating to 3D modelling, animation, level and game design, concept art, and visual effects. You will also learn the fundamental traditional art skills such as drawing and painting, colour theory, and life drawing,that underpin the more digital disciplines. Finally you will learn how the games industry works, and complete several group projects to develop your team working, project management, and critical self evaluation skills. You will have opportunity to work closely with local game studios and engage with them directly through live briefs, game testing sessions, and studio visits. You will also be able to work on exciting games development projects in collaboration with our Higher Education BA(Hons) Games Art students.
