What the college says

The Level 2 Award is a nationally recognised civilian qualification, and the level is equivalent to GCSE grades A - C. By achieving your Functional Skills English Level 2 you will: Increase your chances of promotion Improve your job prospects for future employment Extend your knowledge Content: You will cover the following units: Reading – selecting, reading, understanding and comparing texts and using them to gather information, ideas, arguments and opinions. Writing – writing formal documents using standard English. Speaking, Listening and Communication – making a range of contributions to formal discussions in a range of contexts, including those that are unfamiliar, and make effective formal presentations.

What you need to get on

Candidates must already hold a Level 1 in English and Maths before undertaking this course. A further diagnostic assessment will take place before enrolment.

How you are assessed

Entry level and Level 1 study, English and maths retakes, and supported programmes.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
