Functional Skills English
at East Norfolk Sixth Form College, Great Yarmouth · sixth form college
What the college says
The English Functional Skills course is designed to help build your skills and confidence in English so that you can progress either to the next level of English Functional Skills or the GCSE English Language course, depending what Level of Functional Skills you start on.
What you need to get on
If you get a grade E or below at GCSE, or have no formal English qualification, you will be assessed during the enrolment process to check which Level of Functional Skills will suit your needs best. The focus is on making sure you develop strong literacy skills so that if you succeed at Level 1, you can progress to Level 2 the following year. If you start on Level 2, and succeed at this level, the following year you will progress to the more demanding exam-only GCSE English Language (9-1).
How you are assessed
Entry level and Level 1 study, English and maths retakes, and supported programmes.
What this level means
A first step that builds towards Level 2.
Is it open to 16 to 18 year olds?
