What the college says

French is an ideal subject to study at Advanced Level. The range of topics studied combine well with a number of other subjects in all fields; French develops valuable communication skills and can be studied further either as a stand-alone subject, or in combination with a wide range of other degree subjects. The Advanced Level course in French offers a stimulating challenge to language learners interested in further developing their skills. In Year 12, social issues and trends are explored alongside the artistic culture of France through a range of topics that are relevant to modern society. In addition, a literary text or French-language film is studied. The transition from GCSE to AS Level is carefully structured with a focus on developing grammatical knowledge and accuracy, together with building a wider range of vocabulary within the context of the topics being studied.
