At French A level you will learn about aspects of French culture and contemporary society, looking at diversity and the benefits it brings. You will study highlights of French-speaking artistic culture, including francophone music and cinema, and learn about political engagement and who wields political power in the French-speaking world. How does current French cinema and music reflect the issues faced in contemporary French society? Have you ever considered how enjoying an authentic French film such as la Haine can provide an interesting way to learn about French, widen your vocabulary and develop a range of analytical and critical skills Les origines d’une société multiculturelle. Comment est-ce que la société française est-elle devenue multiculturelle? Would you like to find out more about the issues surrounding multiculturalism in French speaking countries? How successful is cultural diversity and what can be done to promote true integration – is there such a thing? Explore this through virtual and/or real-life encounters. As part of this subject, students can enjoy: a film and literature study day, university taster sessions, the opportunity to correspond regularly with a French student, a trip to Germany, support to organise work experience, international competition opportunities – translation and poetry.

Students must have achieved at least five strong passes (at least Grade 5) at GCSE level, including English Language, Maths and French.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
