The specification requires students to develop confidence (and competence) in the four language skills of Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing. There will be a greater emphasis on grammer than at GCSE but also room for spontaneity.The course will help students develop their general study skills, but most of all students will learn to communicate at a higher level in the language(s) chosen. Students will study four topics; Travel, Contemporary Youth Culture, Cultural Identity and Immigration, and France and the Occupation, a film and a literary text. Listening, reading and writing 50% Writing 20% Speaking 30%

What you need to get on

At least 8 9-5 grades at GCSE, including English Language and Mathematics. Grade 6 in French at GCSE and a grade 6 or better in the writing section of the exam is also a good indicator of success at this level.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
