What the college says
This is a preparatory Level 2 course in forgework and horse care to prepare you for entry into the specialist and competitive Level 3 Apprenticeship in Farriery. It includes both the City and Guilds Level 2 Technical Diploma in Horse Care and a bespoke forging certificate. The course provides an introduction of equine and farriery knowledge with a main element being the practical forging skills to prepare you for an apprenticeship in farriery. This course offers the expertise of our highly qualified farriery and equine tutors. To gain farriery experience you will be encouraged to undertake a period of work experience with a qualified farrier, which will help reinforce your awareness of farriery as a possible career.
What you need to get on
A minimum of four GSCEs at grade 3, including English, maths and science
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
