Recognise the letters and pronounce the phonemes (sounds) of the English language 2. Blend phonemes together to read CVC words. (You will be able to read words like sit, cat, mat) 3. Orally segment phonemes. (You will be able to say c, a and t when asked to identify the phonemes in the word cat) 4. Identify a digraph and a trigraph. (You will identify and pronounce sh and igh) 5. Recognise and read words containing the split digraph. (You will read words like make, like, hope) 6. Read words containing adjacent consonants accurately. (You will read words like stop, clap, strong) "
