What the college says
Learners develop practical skills in English; it helps learners gain the most out of, education, work and everyday life. There's a strong focus on explanation and problem-solving. This problem solving approach can be used in work, life and further learning. Learners complete three components- Speaking, listening and communication, Reading and Writing. They need to pass all three components to achieve Functional Skills at Entry Level 3. Those who take this programme of study should by the end of it be able to confidently participate in discussions/ exchanges about familiar topics in formal and informal discussions and exchanges, be able to use appropriate language in formal discussions. Read and understand texts in different formats using techniques and strategies appropriate to the task. Read and understand the main points of text. Writing element- plan, draft and organise writing so that is should be able to clear and logical. Use basic grammar including appropriate verb-tense and subject-verb agreement. These are just a few of the reading, writing, speaking and communications skills learners cover on this programme of study. Those learners who successfully master the skills required at this level, have the opportunity to progress and complete English at Level 1 and Level 2.
