There are two separate A Levels offered by the English Department: English Language and English Literature. There are many transferable and desirable skills taught as part of the A Level English Literature course. The specification ensures students can gain a solid understanding of how texts can be connected and how they can be interpreted in multiple ways so that students can arrive at their own interpretations and become confident autonomous readers. Students also experience a rich, challenging and coherent approach to English literature that provides an excellent basis for studying the subject at university

What you need to get on

Each student will need to achieve a minimum average points score of 4.8 from the best 8 results; with a Grade 4 or higher in Maths and English Language or Literature. This average points score is based on the QCA points system which is as follows: 9 = 9, 8 = 8, 7= 7, 6 = 6, 5= 5, 4= 4, 3 = 3, 2 = 2 and 1 = 1 Also: minimum Grade 5 in GCSE English Literature

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
