This is a scientific study of how language works on different levels and is nothing like anything you’ve ever studied at GCSE. You will develop a thorough understanding of grammar as well as the ability to write coherently and fluently. This course offers the opportunity to explore differences between spoken and written language use as well as more contemporary multi-modal texts. Of great interest is the way in which language can be used to create representations of people, events and institutions and to manipulate audiences, including you! Other fields of study include the ways in which children develop as speakers and writers and how language changes across time, place and community.

What you need to get on

Level 3 Academic Route Entry Requirements: Minimum of five Grade 5s or above in separate subjects. A minimum of a Grade 5 in English or Maths and at least a Grade 4 in the other. Each subject will also have their own entry criteria which have to be adhered to.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
