What the college says
The course is a study of language in use in different social contexts. You will learn about its structures and functions drawing on your knowledge of language change and variation. You will develop analytical skills and an understanding of different concepts and frameworks which you will be able to apply to investigate your own and others' language use. You will learn to write creatively for a specific audience, purpose and context. Where appropriate and available we take students on extra-curricular trips and visits.
What you need to get on
7-9 in GCSE English Language preferred or 6 in both English Language and English Literature.
How you are assessed
Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.

The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.
