English Language - A Level (2 Yrs)
at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College, Eastleigh · sixth form college
What the college says
Studying English Language at Barton Peveril will open your eyes, ears and mind to the many facets of the language; from the sounds of speech to syntactic structure, society's views on slang to the subtleties of 'under the surface' implication. On the course you'll explore a number of methods for deconstructing written, spoken and multi-modal texts, always in relation to the context in which they were produced, for whom and for what purpose. You'll study theoretical approaches to evaluating communication and apply them to a range of genuine texts, each a product of real-world interaction. When producing the coursework folder in your second year you will write both creatively and analytically, exploring a language issue you find personally intriguing.
