English Language is a stimulating and interesting course. Students who want to learn more about the origins and history of language, taking a more ‘scientific’ approach, will enjoy this A Level. Students will study the key concepts of the evolution of language and will explore language in its wider social and geographical contexts. Students will study varieties of English within the British Isles and other countries such as the USA. This part of the subject content also requires students to study social attitudes to, and debates about, language diversity. WHERE DOES IT LEAD? The course is popular and is a well regarded qualification, recognised by universities and employers as a useful, academic and significant subject. An English Language A Level creates opportunities in a wide range of areas especially those relating to the worlds of communication, the media and speech and language development. Importantly the course is also rewarding and enjoyable in its own right.

5 GCSEs @ Grades 4-9, including 6+ in GCSE English Literature or English Language

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
