This is an opportunity for History students to be pioneers and travel uncharted waters much like the adventurers of the past. This is your chance to be the first and make your mark. The new specification is exciting and varied and will provide students with the means to develop their skills of analysis and interpretation that is so valued by employers and sought after. The world is changing rapidly with the development of new technology and we need to understand the impact that it will have on our world. Only the study of History and understanding of the past with enable us to make sense of the world. The A level course has been changed to a linear structure with all examinations taken at the end of two years. The course has been organised thematically with 8 possible routes. The following are two possible examples of the thematic routes. As yet, the History Department has not made a final choice on the possible route that will be studied.
What you need to get on
The History A level course is a challenging, demanding and academically rigorous course and students will need to have an inquiring mind, the ability to analyse information and communicate their ideas effectively, and a keen interest in discussion, argument and the past. Entry requirement for this course is 5 GCSEs at Level 4 - 9 including a Grade 5 in History or at least a Grade 5 in English if History was not taken at GCSE.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
