Aims The Performing Arts is one of our country’s most exciting and successful industries. It also provides a huge range of career prospects. This course is designed to be highly practical, engaging and analytical. You will have opportunities to examine drama and the work of others, and to explore a range of texts as a practical art form. Course content Unit 1 – Theatre Workshop (20% of A Level) Reinterpret a text to create a piece of theatre which is a combination of the selected text and your original ideas. Internally assessed. You will also produce a creative log book. Unit 2 – Text in Action (40% of A Level) Respond to a stimulus to create two pieces of theatre; one is an interpretation of a text of your own choice and the other is a devised piece. This is assessed by a visiting examiner. You will produce a creative log book. Unit 3 – Text in Performance (40% of A Level) This is a 2hr30min written exam. Answer questions about two complete performance texts and one extract from a third text. What key skills will I learn? Thorough preparation for higher education, developing creative thinking and independent learning skills. Your range and skill as a performer will increase. You will develop a rigorous approach to time and self-management as you will be required to attend additional rehearsals and evening performances. What you need to get on
Grade 4 GCSE in Mathematics and English Language. A minimum of five GCSEs at grades 5 (C) and above including grade 6 (B) in the subjects selected for A Level. To study Further Maths a grade 7 in Mathematics GCSE is required. A grade 5 in English is essential for accessing Business Studies, Economics, Government & Politics, Media, Philosophy & Ethics, Psychology and Sociology if you have not studied these subjects at GCSE. A grade 5 in Mathematics is essential for accessing Physics/Biology/Chemistry and also Business Studies, Computing, Economics and Product Design- if you have not studied these subjects at GCSE.
