French culture, septième art, French film, French cinema. During the nine weeks we will look at the history of French cinema from the invention of the moving image in 1895 in Lyon through the golden ages of the 30's, the challenges of the occupation and then on to its rebirth through the New Wave in the sixties followed by the latest trends. This will be heavily illustrated by clips from key films and illustrated notes.

An interest in cinema and the ability to read substitles in English.
