What the college says

Unit 1 Changing awareness of crime You will study different types of crime and look at why some people are reluctant to report certain crimes. You will examine the links between unreported crimes such as counterfeiting designer goods as a way to fund terrorism and human trafficking and consider the role of the media. You will have gained the skills to plan a campaign for change in relation to crime; for example, to raise awareness, change attitudes or change reporting of behaviours. Unit 2 Criminological theories You will gain understanding of why people commit crimes, what makes behaviour criminal. You will be looking at what makes someone a serial killer or abusive to their family. This unit also addresses the theories of Criminologists and how these can be applied to real life scenarios. In this module you will learn how to evaluate expert opinions and gain skills to apply theories to specific crimes or criminals. Unit 3 Crime scene to court room You will be looking at how the justice system works, from the moment the crime has been identified right through to the verdict. How fair have past verdicts been? You will get to review cases and make a decision. Unit 4 Crime and punishment You will be evaluating how effective the Criminal Justice system is in England and Wales by asking questions such as why do we punish people? How effective are current punishments? Why do most people tend to obey the law?
