This exciting and innovative course will help you to develop a range of creative art skills. The Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design is designed to provide you with an opportunity to explore, develop and test your creativity. This course will provide you with a sound base of skills and knowledge, enhance self-confidence and an understanding of the career demands and opportunities within art and design. You will get the opportunity to explore the materials, methods and processes that support art and design activities. This course is designed to develop your knowledge, technical skills, and understanding for a rewarding career in a number of creative roles. The course helps you to develop more than just your creativity and expression, and artistic skills, you will also gain a deeper understanding of the theories and principles of art and design, including research methodology, expression of thought, justification of concept, and evaluation of product. Learning will be through practical activities and project. You will be encouraged to explore, experiment and to experience a wide range of art and design methods to develop creativity and professional approach to learning. Activities may include painting, drawing, illustration, model making, sculpture and printmaking.

What you need to get on

4 GCSE qualifications at grades A*-D or 9-3, or a Level 1 qualification in a relevant subject. Previous study in a creative subject or a strong interest in Art and Design. Additional information: A portfolio of work is to be shown at interview. You will have a review of your portfolio and ideally show some moderate success in the subject area. If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade 4 (that is the old Grade C) or above in Maths and/or English

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
