AQA A Level Design and Technology: Product Design Product Design encompasses a wide range of design disciplines, but is firmly rooted in the skills required to design and make high quality products; products that are fit for purpose, satisfy wants and needs, and enhance our day-to-day lives. The A Level course allows students from a wide range of Design & Technology backgrounds to be successful. It combines the skills needed to communicate your design ideas through sketching, technical drawing, traditional and computer modelling, with knowledge of Product Design, Resistant Materials, Graphics and Engineering. Students who have attained a grade C or above at GCSE in both the controlled assessment and in the examination tend to be better able to cope with the demands of this course. Assessments The Design and Technology A level is assessed through examination and non-exam assessment (coursework): PAPER 1: Core technical principles and core designing and making principles (2hrs) Students will answer a mixture of short answer, multiple choice and extended response questions (25% of A Level) PAPER 2: Section A: Product Analysis and Section B: Commercial Manufacture (2hrs) Students will answer a mixture of short answer, multiple choice and extended response questions and are expected to demonstrate specialist knowledge of technical and designing & making principles (25% of A level) DESIGN & MAKE TASK Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) (45hrs) Students are assessed on their practical applica
What you need to get on
Total point score of 30 or higher from best 7 GCSEs including English Language and Mathematics graded 4 or higher, and GCSE Design and Technology graded 5 or higher in both the exam and coursework components.
How you are assessed
Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
