JIGSAW is Dorton College’s Skills for Independent Living curriculum with contextualized English and maths. It is built around student main programmes of study, delivered by our partnership providers. It aims to enable young people with a vision impairment develop the skills that will enable them to participate as citizens in the community, improve essential personal, social and practical skills, increase confidence and self esteem and develop self determination and greater personal autonomy. Students follow an individualised programme which includes 1:1 key working, immersion in a supported living environment, individual and group taught sessions. Students are enabled to determine and access enrichment programmes which will support them in developing the skills needed to access organised activities and leisure pursuits in the community, including fitness activities, all delivered by specialist staff. As part of the programme, students will also complete work related learning and placements and develop her employability skills. Students also develop their skills through Managing Health and Well Being and Citizenships programmes. Regular specialist services input is provided through Mobility and Orientation, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy to support students in developing strategies and skills to enable them to access their educational and life skills courses and prepare them for living as independently as possible, including accessing/engag
