Aims of the course Product Design aims to encourage candidates to develop their capacity to create products and to appreciate the complex relationships between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. It prepares students to make informed choices about further learning opportunities and career options. There is a link between aspects of the specification content & other subject areas such as Computer Science, Business Studies, Art & Design, Maths and Science. Course content outline Assessments:- Written examination Paper 1 – Technical principles. 30% of A-Level. This is a mixture of short answer and extended response. Paper 2 – Design and Making Principles. 20% of A-Level. Section A. (Product Analysis) is based on visual stimulus of products. Section B (Commercial Manufacture) is a mixture of short and extended response questions. Non-exam assessment (NEA) 50% of A-level Practical application of technical principles, designing and making principles. This is a substantial design and make project, evidenced in a design portfolio and photographic evidence of a final prototype. What key skills will I learn? The course helps students to develop a good understanding and provides practical experience of specialist tools, equipment, materials and processes to design and make products. What you need to get on

Grade 4 GCSE in Mathematics and English Language A minimum of five GCSEs at grades 5 and above including grade 6 in the subjects selected for A Level. *To study Further Maths a grade 7 in Mathematics GCSE is required A grade 5 in English is essential for accessing Business Studies, Economics, Government & Politics, Media, Philosophy & Ethics, Psychology and Sociology if you have not studied these subjects at GCSE. A grade 5 in Mathematics is essential for accessing Physics/Biology/Chemistry and also Business Studies, Computing, Economics and Product Design- if you have not studied these subjects at GCSE.
