The course extends your knowledge of some familiar topics such as Atomic Structure, Bonding, Energy Changes, Rates of Reaction and The Periodic Table. A number of new topics and concepts will also be introduced during the course. These include: • Organic Chemistry: Nomenclature, Alkenes, Haloalkanes, Aldehydes, Ketones, Carboxylic Acids and Esters. This includes reaction mechanisms. • Physical Chemistry: Redox Reactions, Equilibria, Thermodynamics, Electrode Potentials and Acids, Bases & Buffers. • Inorganic Chemistry: Studying the trends and properties of Group 2, Group 7, Period 3 and the Transition Elements. • Spectroscopic Techniques including Mass Spectrometry, IR Spectroscopy and NMR Spectroscopy. Assessments There are 3 exams at the end of Year 13 which contribute to the overall A Level qualification.
