What the college says

Chemistry A level is a 2 year course which is a challenging and exciting subject which develops an understanding of chemical reactions from the structure of the atom right through to large scale reactions happening both in industry and our atmosphere. Studying Chemistry develops practical skills and the ability to analyse and evaluate data. It will suit those who have enjoyed the study of sciences at GCSE and want to take their understanding to greater depths. We are following the OCR A syllabus; this course provides further insight into the structure of atoms, chemical bonds and chemical reactions. It is important for those thinking of degrees and careers in Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Veterinary Sciences and any Bioscience and is also valuable for those considering a career in any other science. Students will take 3 external examinations at the end of year 13: Periodic table, elements and physical chemistry; Synthesis and analytical techniques and Unified Chemistry.
