The course is built around 6 Teaching Units. These are: • Module 1 - Development of practical skills in chemistry – consideration of practical skills to be assessed in the written examinations; embedded throughout the course • Module 2 - Foundations in chemistry – fundamental aspects of chemistry, including; atomic structure, acid-base and redox reactions, amount of substance, electrons, bonding and structure • Module 3 - Periodic table and energy – periodicity, qualitative analysis, enthalpy changes, equilibria and rates • Module 4 - Core organic chemistry – functional group chemistry and analytical techniques • Module 5 - Physical chemistry and transition elements – rates, pH, enthalpy, entropy, redox, electrode potentials and transition elements • Module 6 - Organic chemistry and analysis – functional group chemistry, organic synthesis, chromatography and spectroscopy.

What you need to get on

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects at grade 5 Grade 6 in GCSE Chemistry or Grade 7 in GCSE Combined Science Grade 5 in GCSE Maths

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
