The purpose of the qualification is to develop learners' knowledge and understanding of common childhood illnesses to support job roles which involve the care of babies and young children in the age range 0-5 years. Being able to recognise the signs of these illnesses, and then understand the actions to take should this occur, can drastically improve the life of a baby and young child. This course aims to give you those skills, and the confidence to provide a healthy safe environment for children. This qualification can be used to update and continue your professional development, (CPD), and to develop knowledge/skills relevant to the occupational specialisation. It is suitable for anyone who works, or is hoping to gain employment, in this field.

What you need to get on

You will need to be aged be 19+ as at 31st August prior to the start of the current academic year. You will also need to have at least a Level 1 qualification in English/Literacy or equivalent. To assist in completion of this qualification, it may help to be working in, or have access to, the chosen sector. If you already have a higher-level qualification in this specialism, it may impact on your eligibility.

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
