This course is designed to develop your knowledge, understanding and practical skills relating to veterinary nursing, in preparation for further learning and a career in veterinary nursing or animal care, based within a veterinary practice. It will provide you with the skills required to play a valuable support role and provide basic care to animals under the direction and/or supervision of a veterinary surgeon or veterinary nurse, as well as assisting owners in the correct management of their animals. On successful completion of this course, you will have achieved the SEG Awards Level 2 Certificate for Animal Nursing Assistants.

What you need to get on

You should be aged 16 or above at the time you start the course and have a strong interest in working with animals. To be accepted onto the course, you will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including English, maths, and science, or you will have gained a Distinction in a relevant Level 1 qualification. Adult learners aged 19+ with other qualifications and/or experience are also welcomed and are accepted on a case-by-case basis depending on their individual circumstances.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
