What the college says

This comprises eight compulsory units and a choice of four from a list of optional units. The compulsory units cover topics on communication, equality, diversity & rights, health, safety & security, human development, anatomy & physiology, personal & professional development in health & social care and both sociological & psychological perspectives. The optional units cover a range of topics related to health and social care issues including nutrition, caring for older people, environmental health and research methodology.

What you need to get on

It is not necessary to have studied this subject at GCSE or BTEC First. It is preferable that students have a GCSE pass in Science and English. An interest in sport and participation in at least one activity either inside or outside of school is essential. If GCSE was studied a minimum of grade 4/5 is needed. At BTEC First a pass award would be required. An interest in coaching at least one sport would be advantageous.
