BTEC Business studies combines key skills such as research, communication and analytical thinking. It is an excellent choice of course for you if you are interested in how business works, how it attracts its customers and recruits its staff. This course is designed so that you learn all of the above and much more, you will cover all of the different functions within the business over the 2 years of study. On the BTEC course you are required to demonstrate learning through two portfolios of coursework, one external examination and one externally marked task. The course is designed so that two units are assessed through portfolios of coursework produced by students. These pieces of work are assessed by your teachers and external markers. You will be set a marketing task which is marked by an external marker and will also undertake a Finance examination, which is marked externally. Work is graded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction Level. This course carries the same amount of UCAS points as a traditional A Level. As such, successful completion of this course can lead students onto a selection of business related courses at university. It will also provide a solid knowledge base that students might take into a vocational based apprenticeship. Other students may use the course to identify future career paths based upon areas of the course they have enjoyed.
