at Leigh Academy Hundred of Hoo, Rochester · school or sixth form
What the college says
If you're thinking about a career in health and social care but not ready to commit entirely to a purely work related course, the National Extended Certificate gives you an introduction to the sector whilst allowing you to study other subjects alongside it. Equivalent in size to one A Level, if you take it as part of a programme of study that includes other work related or academic Level 3 qualifications it can help you to move on to to a wide range of higher education and training opportunities. The health service is one of the fastest growing industries and, in light of recent events, the health care sector is in greater demand than ever. The content of the course is so wide and varied that whether you are interested in the human lifespan, individual care needs or anatomy and physiology, there will be so much to interest you. Heath and Social Care will work well in conjunction with so many other disciplines, including sociology, sport studies and biology. Pupils will have the opportunity to participate in work experience, giving them skills and involvement in the sector. This would be invaluable and enhance future opportunities. The qualification has been developed in consultation with higher education, as well as employers and professional bodies, ensuring that all pupils will be in the best possible position to gain employment.
