The Extended Diploma in Applied Science is the core qualification studied in the second year of a Level 3 Programme of Study in Applied Science. It is the perfect qualification for students who want to continue their level 3 studies in science following their study of a Foundation Diploma in Applied Science and provides learners with a range of optional pathways to prepare them for progression into University Level Education or employment. Pathway 2 - Biomedical Science The Biomedical Science pathway has a reduced amount of physics content and increased amount of biological science content. It provides learners with a greater opportunity to gain the required understanding to progress into fields such as biomedical science, pharmacy and will provide the greatest links to our own Degree and Foundation Degree in Applied Biosciences. In all pathways, a significant amount of time will be spent developing your practical laboratory skills, which will allow you to progress with confidence into technical-based employment or Higher Education science programmes. While on the second year of the Extended Diploma, you will study the following units regardless of your pathway: - Principles and Applications of Science 2 - Investigative Project - Contemporary Issues in Science - Genetics and Genetic Engineering - Applications of Organic Chemistry Plus the following optional units based on your chosen pathway: Biomedical Science - Physiology of Human Body Systems - Microbiology and Microbiolog
