This course is ideal for you if you have an interest in Applied Science and wish to eventually enter employment as a Science Technician by studying a further vocational qualification at a higher level. A BTEC qualification is a practical, work-related course aimed at introducing you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You will study a variety of specialist units from all three disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics, along with maths and English (unless you already have a Grade 4 (C) at GCSE). You may also have the opportunity to study an additional maths qualification aimed at supporting your study of science. Along with these qualifications, you may take part in work experience and/or employability sessions. You will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of: The quality procedures relevant to the workplace How to recognise problems and apply appropriate scientific methods to identify causes and achieve solutions The foundations of health and safety including responsibility for health and safety under Health & Safety at Work Act (HASWA). You will have the ability to: Prepare for, and perform, laboratory experiments, tests or tasks Demonstrate technical competence in the use of specified instruments and equipment Keep accurate records of laboratory wor

Four GCSEs at Grade 2 or above, or completion of Foundation studies including English and maths GCSEs at grade 1-3.

Entry level and Level 1 study, English and maths retakes, and supported programmes.
