BTEC First Award in Principles of Applied Science
at Cotham School, Bristol · school or sixth form
What the college says
If you would like to study all 3 sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and like working on big written projects this is the course for you. The format of the course means it is broken down into more manageable chunks than the science GCSE and you only have to learn the content for the 1 exam: for the coursework you will develop different skills: in researching the topics and writing them up.
What you need to get on
4 x GCSE at grade 3 (or above), including English language and mathematics.
How you are assessed
One subject in depth, assessed largely through coursework and projects.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
Is it open to 16 to 18 year olds?
Approved for 16 to 18 study on the government's Section 96 list.
