What the college says

The Level 1 Award in British Sign Language (BSL) introduces learners to basic communication skills in BSL for everyday situations. Designed for anyone who wants to communicate with Deaf people using simple, everyday BSL vocabulary, phrases and sentences. Provides foundational skills in both BSL production (signing) and reception (understanding). .

What you need to get on

You must be aged 19 or over. An initial assessment will ensure you join the right level. Suitable for complete beginners with no prior BSL experience needed. Learners must have sufficient vision, manual dexterity and facial/body movement to produce and receive BSL. Regular attendance and independent practice recommended.

How you are assessed

Entry level and Level 1 study, English and maths retakes, and supported programmes.
