The course will cover the following units: n You and Your Genes. n Keeping Healthy. n Living Together � Food and Ecosystems. n Using Food and Controlling Growth. n The Human Body � Staying Alive. n Life on Earth � Past, Present and Future. n Ideas about Science. n Practical Skills. It will also test mathematical skills through subject-based questions. As a Biology student you will expected to carry out experiments, work in small groups to deliver presentations, make use of the internet to research and view animations as well as contribute to in-class discussions. The lessons are designed to involve variety with both a combination of note-taking and engaging interactive activities. All students are required to undertake reading around the subject outside college; this should be a minimum of three hours per week.

What you need to get on

In addition to our general entry requirements, you must have: n GCSE Science � at least grade 3 (or Pass in Level 2 BTEC/OCR Science) You need to be dedicated and have the ability to evaluate and process large amounts of information. You also need good time management skills and the ability to undertake independent study.

How you are assessed

Entry level and Level 1 study, English and maths retakes, and supported programmes.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
