What the college says
Level and Exam Board OCR A level Why choose Biology? A Biology A level is very desirable and passing the course gives students a considerable advantage if they wish to study any Science or Medicine course at university. It is also an ideal complementary subject for those students who are studying Chemistry at the same level. What does the course involve? The course we follow is Advanced Biology, which has been developed in conjunction with the Institute of Biology and is examined by OCR. It is a newly revised course that has been updated and restructured in order to appeal to a broad spectrum of students. At AS level, the course covers a wide spectrum of subjects including the exchange and transport of cells, biodiversity, molecules, food and health. In the second year, at A2 level, biological communication, homeostasis and energy are covered, along with control, genomes and the biological environment. Both years develop and enhance the practical scientific skills of Biology students. Contact jpeart@nunthorpe.co.uk
