Whether you're aiming to become a teaching assistant or learning support assistant, this qualification is the perfect first step. Delivered over 12 sessions, this course is ideal for anyone looking to launch a career in support work within schools. You'll begin by exploring the role and value of volunteering, then build your knowledge of how schools function, the key legislation you’ll need to understand, and how to support children’s development and learning in the classroom. Alongside the taught elements, learners will take part in a volunteering placement at the host school for a minimum of 3 hours a week, providing valuable hands-on experience and a chance to observe and support classroom activities. This practical element reinforces the learning and offers real insight into the role of a teaching assistant.

What you need to get on

You must be at least 19 years old, be able to attend all sessions and complete the voluntary placement.

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
