This course is a great choice if you are ready to start your career in the beauty industry and have a passion for making people feel pampered and good about themselves. This course provides you with all the knowledge to perform traditional beauty treatments on clients. Beauty therapists work in close contact with clients from different age groups and backgrounds. Good social and interpersonal skills, discretion and respect for others are important characteristics. You will also need to have physical stamina as you are often on your feet all day.
What you need to get on
You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (A*–D), including English and maths – one of English or Maths must be grade 9–4 (A*–C). Functional Skills Level 1 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 3 (D) and Functional Skills Level 2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 4 (C) or above. All students must undertake and pass a practical dexterity test prior to enrolment to ensure you are suitable for this course.
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
